Miami is the eighth-most populous and fourth-largest urban area in the U.S., with a population of around 5.5 million. Miami is nicknamed the „Capital of Latin America” and is the largest city with a Cuban-American plurality.

As many ethnicities live in Miami, several languages are spoken besides English including Spanish, Asian languages, Portugese and Indo-European tongue.

The cuisine of Miami is a reflection of its diverse population, with a heavy influence especially from Carribean cuisine and from Latin American cuisine. By combining the two American cuisine, it has spawned a unique South Florida style of cooking known as Floribbean cuisine. Miami is also known for its seafood, with many seafood restaurants located along the Miami River, and in and around Biscayne Bay.

Popular restaurant chains include Burger King, Toni Roma’s and Benihana.
